Placenames Australia (PA) welcomes any help you or your organisation can provide, no matter how small or large, either by supporting our Australian National Placenames Survey through research, by becoming a PA member, or by making a donation to support our researchers and the infrastructure needed to record the information gathered.
Research can be as simple as the extraction of placename text from eDocuments, manuscripts, books, journals, even Newspapers (using Trove). Placenames Australia (PA) provides training and documentation to help its researchers.
To request information on what PA provides its researchers click here to send an email to ANPS research editor .
Each little bit of information contributed to our Survey helps in determining the final story of a placename’s origin, answering what we call the WH- questions: who named it, why did they name it, and when did they name it?
If you are unable to help with research, why not become a Placenames Australia supporting member (just a $25 / year donation)? In doing so, you will help our volunteer researchers by providing infrastructure support, and receive our quarterly online newsletter Placenames Australia
More information on being a member can be found here.
